The cg Shiny Demo Pack

Update: 2nd May 2003

Added cg.dll & cgGL.dll

  • Last update: 30th April 2003
  • feedback: ggchua@mail.com

This demo pack is essentially an upgraded version of the Blackbox Demos, with the cg shaders to simulate various materials such as plastic, rubber, chrome metal, brush metal, dull metal, transparent glass, varnished wood, "Aqua"-style gum-drop, and even shiny turd.

System requirements

This demo pack has only been tested on an NVidia GF3 Ti200. Only systems with GF3 and above will be able to see the material effects; systems with lesser 3D cards such as GF1/2 can still run the demos but the material effects will be off.

According to the cg forums, the latest hardware from ATI (9700 etc.) should "just work". I'd be glad to hear about the performance there.

Contents

This demo pack consists of 6 demos:

1. The "nez" 3D MP3 Player (nez.exe)

The 3D MP3 player functions by reading in a playlist (mp3list.txt) and playback when the playback buttons are pressed. An MP3 from the game Grim Fandango is included.

The "nez" features a number of material effects:

  • The chrome metal (the USB plug at upper right)
  • The "Aqua"-style gum-drop (the playback buttons)
  • Glossy plastic (the front cover)
  • Transparent glass with highlight and reflection (the text screen cover)
  • Glossy rubber (the side grip)
  • Brush metal (the back cover)

2. The "dopi" 3D MP3 Player (dopi.exe)

The 3D MP3 player functions by reading in a playlist (mp3list.txt) and playback when the playback buttons are pressed. An MP3 from the game Grim Fandango is included.

The "dopi" features a number of material effects:

  • The dull metal with slight reflection (the back cover)
  • Vanished wood (the front cover and playback buttons)
  • Transparent glass with high reflection (the text screen cover)

3. The Perpetual Bear (bear.exe)

This is a walking character that spouts speech bubbles. This demos the effect of environment mapping on an animating object.

4. The Chaser (chaser.exe)

An object that tries to follow the mouse cursor as best as it could.

5. The character Uther Lightbringer (uther.exe)

A game character. This demos the effect of different material.
